Politics is the definitely the game played in the UIGEA legislation. . The question in this legislation is that online gaming should be legalize, control or ban fully. Its also quiet famous that this policy in question is a lobbyist issue. However, it is known by the politicians themselves that this issue does not influence the general populations because it has little effect in their lives. But there are significant small groups that are very keen on this issue.

These groups no matter how small they are can place any Senator and congressman in hot water. On one side the lawmakers can choose to prefer their personal views and opinions in the matter and on the other hand, the special interest groups can pressure them on their decisions especially if they are the ones who funds the campaign.

For instance, you are a Congressman in a Republican district who’s in his first term. You only won the Republican primaries in a very small margin. I think the most appropriate decision you must make is to vote for the UIGEA legislation which is an anti-gambling policy. Your general population will not care for the decision you make but the small groups of Republicans like the Focus on the Family and Christian Coalition will be delighted with your decision to support the anti gambling law. These groups has an great impact in your community, that in case you fail to support what they are lobbying will withdraw their support in your campaign and that would be goodbye into your political career.

That’s not exclusive to Republican candidates but also to all politicians as well. All of them will receive pressure from both sides of the ongoing legislations.

The point here is that our politicians will not based their decision for this legislation based on their personal preference but they will pick out the decision that will give them the greatest political advantage when election comes. They just have to support the small interest group that will support and fund their political career since the general population does not really care for this particular legislation.
