“A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over with a working simple system.”

This passage of John Gall was written at his book named Systemantics: How Systems Work and Especially How They Fail.

The passage has an in depth meaning but it holds true with poker. Learning to play poker must start from the basic steps. Like the old saying state, “You have to be able to crawl before you walk”.

Too many people want to have what they want in an instant. Reading a book about poker does not mean that you already know it all. You cannot defeat anyone with that. Green horn poker players think that they can be the next professional poker player when they applied what they read about poker without even practicing it. Time and practice are the best ways you can do to become a successful poker player.

In the world of poker, one way to become a better player is to make a solid basis that you can develop as time goes by. Do not create a complicated plan which have so many room for mistakes. Knowledge of advance strategies are useless if you already have a major flaw in your core strategy.

A firm core strategy incorporate these basic skills:

1.Identifying basic hand attributes
2.Proper use of aggression
3.Comprehend the ins and outs of positioning
4.The significance of odds

The said skill are your basis to be a good poker player. You must study and master these skills patiently before you can face the pros on bigger challenges.

These are the things you need to conquer the lower limit poker games. Detrimental on this stage is your knowledge of advance game strategies. The most effectual strategy on this level is to play in a straightforward way. There’s no use in learning strategies like 3-bet bluff on the river, thin value bets etc. This will just make you confuse and lost.

When you mastered this core strategies, then you can use all the advance strategies your dying to use.

If you already played poker for a long time but still can’t make the right move to win then it will be good for you if you start all over again. You have to learn from scratch to know the right way to play.
